The New Moon in Aries

Apr 12, 2021

On April 11th – 12th of 2021, a new moon will occur in the constellation of Aries. Being the first fire sign of the zodiac, this archetype brings with it a burst in creative force. The saying goes ‘as above, so below’, and we can witness this fiery energy here on earth. Like the new moon, Spring is associated with new beginnings. It requires instinctual and passionate creativity in order to birth life into this world.

The element of fire creates as fast as it destroys. It represents burning passion, desire, zeal, and motivation – qualities that drive us to take action. Aries is the cardinal fire sign of the zodiac, making it great at leading and initiating. However, this energy isn’t sustainable, as it is quite impulsive and unpredictable. It isn’t a slow burning fire, but rather the spark that leads to furious flames. While it has the power to destroy, winter reminded us that death is necessary for rebirth.

With Venus making a conjunction to the new moon and a trine to Mars, this is an invitation to create like rapid fire. Aries is associated with identity, and whatever it creates is an extension of the self. Jupiter teaches us that the creative process is a journey, carrying the possibility of spiritual expansion around identity and how one perceives themselves in this world. It is a doorway to higher levels of conscious and self-awareness.

Mercury in Aries gives us permission to take action on creative ideas that come to us. With Saturn and Chiron in the mix, this is an opportunity to turn pain into works of art. Reflect on past experiences that were challenging, but led to evolution and growth. What were the wounds you had to heal in the process? What hardships did you overcome, and how did that shape you as a person? How did you mature, and how were you able to help others because you went through this experience?

These are all useful questions to reflect on and create from as we set intentions for a new beginning. The invitation is to reflect on sense of self – who you have been, who you are, and who you’re becoming. Aries is the warrior of the zodiac, and more often then not, it is the hardship we endure that drives us to create. This is a great time to face your battle wounds, and then launch forward by taking action on your ideas. Remember that the medicine you need in order to heal is often the medicine you have to offer this world.

Happy Aries New Moon, warriors!

Honoring this new moon could look like…

  1. Meditating on past experiences, and how they have shaped you into a warrior: What can you create or teach as a result of what you’ve gone through? Reflect on the intentions you need to set for this new cycle to birth something into creation.

  2. Talking about your experiences with friends: Mercury invites us to communicate and bounce ideas off of one another. Share your experiences, and process them with people you trust. Talk about your ideas, and what you wish to create going forward.

  3. Performing candle magick: This is a great time to work with the fire element. Obtain a red candle, and as you light it, call in energies of passion, drive, and motivation. Reflect on what lights a fire in your soul, and then do it!

  4. Burning your intentions in a flame: Obtain a piece of paper, and list your intentions for the cycle ahead. Light the paper on fire, and place it into a glass jar. You can use the ashes in the future for magick involving rebirth. Take care to practice safety! As mentioned, fire is impulsive and unpredictable by nature.
